Student’s daily tool

AI has radically changed society and modernity. It has spread around the world rapidly, allowing society to adapt to new technology developed by various scientists. But despite the large number of people using it, there is a debate about whether it should stay or be eliminated. Two sides have been seen: those who defend it and those who don’t. But the question remains unanswered. Has AI become a problem or a solution?

Those in favor support the idea of adapting to AI, since it has been considered a very useful tool in school, business, and other areas. This tool has been recognized as one that even people with limited resources can use without paying for it; there are different free apps available.

With AI in society, a large part of people consider it very useful if it’s used properly. But the problem that sparks controversy comes from these exact situations. Many people, whether young adults studying in university or teenagers studying in high school or middle school, have been relying on this tool to answer exams, homework, classwork, etc. On one side of the debate, it’s said that it’s not a problem if it’s used as a tool that explains the topic they need to learn in more detail. But the other side thinks it should be banned, since many depend on this tool; apparently, it’s becoming one of those things that doesn’t let the brain process information properly and just leaves people needing the tool for any daily situation, even the simple ones. It’s also said by many that it’s slowly becoming an addiction among the youngest.

“Yes, I have seen students use AI,” said DBHS sophomore Jeshuar Lopez. “I don’t think they should be allowed to use it because I consider it cheating”.

Both sides clash with each other when talking about this topic. Is AI a problem? It works like a website where you find everything you need in less time than you would on a normal website. You don’t read large documents, nor do you research on your own… Is that the problem everyone talks about? With AI, is reading analysis being lost, or is that just what people say out there? Useful or useless?

DBHS sophomore Frida Landero said, “I think that for some students it may be helpful to study and not just for having the answers easily”, she also added. “But I think students shouldn’t be allowed to use AI because it’s not helpful at all, and asking for the answer rather than studying will not make things better”.

Even so, over time, technology keeps advancing, and sometimes the idea of ‘eliminating’ AI seems impossible. It has become one of those things you can’t fight against or make disappear; they are here to stay and develop around humans. But does that mean it’s okay? Or is it just a forced acceptance?

Maybe AI isn’t the real problem here, but the way people choose to work with it.
