Woman of Tomorrow

DC’s Supergirl is here

DC Studios’ newest cosmic blockbuster, Supergirl, directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya), flew into theaters in late June 2026 to kick off the summer movie season. The film has dominated the summer box office over the past month, solidifying its place as a keystone of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s expanding DC Universe.

Adapted by Ana Nogueira from Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s critically acclaimed graphic novel Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the movie offers a gritty, cosmic shift away from traditional superhero fare. Unlike her famously altruistic cousin, Clark Kent (David Corenswet), Kara Zor-El is introduced as a cynical, battle-hardened antihero. Having grown up on a floating chunk of the destroyed planet Krypton and witnessed her entire community perish, Kara carries heavy trauma. On her 23rd birthday, she flees Earth to blow off steam on planets with red suns, where Kryptonians lose their powers and can actually feel human effects like intoxication.

The narrative kicks into high gear when Kara crosses paths with Ruthye Marye Knoll, played by breakout young star Eve Ridley. Ruthye is a determined alien girl seeking justice after her father is murdered by Krem of the Yellow Hills, a ruthless galactic bandit and trafficker with terrifying authority, played by Matthias Schoenaerts. When Krem wounds Kara’s

super-powered dog, Krypto, and escapes into deep space, Kara reluctantly teams up with Ruthye to track him down across dangerous alien worlds.

“A solid 8.5/10. Its way better than most of the comic book stuff that’s come out lately, and it actually makes me excited to see her team up with Superman in the next big crossover”, Said DBHS Junior Micah Noel

Milly Alcock delivers a star-making performance as Kara, bringing sharp attitude, deep emotional vulnerability, and raw power to the role. The chemistry between Alcock’s weary universe-trotter and Ridley’s stoic companion forms the heart of the film. The supporting cast includes memorable turns by Jason Momoa as the boisterous bounty hunter Lobo, as well as brief appearances from David Corenswet’s Superman, showcasing a tense sibling-like dynamic between the cousins.

With stunning IMAX visuals, thrilling interstellar action, and an emotionally resonant story of healing from trauma, Supergirl proves that the new era of DC movies is aiming high and hitting its mark.
